Obituary for Joseph Di Maggio

Joseph Di Maggio
Joseph Di Maggio, 96 of Long Branch, died on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in New York City, he had lived in Middletown before coming to Long Branch. Joe was a proprietor of F. Di Maggio and Sons Real Estate and Insurance Company in New York from 1954 until his retirement in 1988. He was a 1947 graduate of the New York University; Founder of the Greenwich Village Athletic Association and a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in West End. Joe served his country honorably in the US Army during WWII.

He was predeceased by his son, Francesco Di Maggio; his daughter, Jodi Di Maggio; his brothers, Salvatore “Teddy” and Charles and his sister, Frances Cassino. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, P. Rose “Perri” Di Maggio; a son, Joseph C. Di Maggio of West Allenhurst; 3 daughters, Francesca Buzzetta of Toms River, P. Mary Di Maggio of Columbia, MD; Debra Agresti of Long Branch; a sister, Mary Putignano of Mt. Vernon, NY; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4 from 5-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch. Funeral Saturday, 8:30 am at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 am Mass at St. Michael’s Church. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery in Oceanport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: DAV-Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle, or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
