Obituary for Bishop Dr. Richard Worsley, Jr.

Bishop Dr. Richard Worsley, Jr.
Bishop Dr. Richard Worsley, Jr., 75 of Eatontown (formerly of Long Branch) was born on September 6, 1942 in Bethel N.C. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, NJ surrounded by his family whom he laughed with, lived for and loved.

Richard attended and graduated from Bethel Union High School in1960. He then moved to New Jersey with his Aunt Lizzina (Lizzie) Knight Credle and Uncle Herman Credle and became a faithful member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank. In 1962, he began attending the Freehold Church of God where he met and married Annie Williams.

Richard started the Long Branch Church of God in 1971 and became an Ordained Bishop. Preaching an uncompromised word, he served the community joyfully for over 40 years. As a result of submitting to God and standing for truth, Bishop Worsley began the For Word Church, Inc. where the vision and legacy can be fulfilled for years to come.

Richard was the son of the late James Richard Worsley and Ethel Knight Worsley. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Vernon Staton, Jr. and James Murchison.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Annie Doris Worsley of Eatontown; two sons, Richard L. Worsley, III (Felicia) of Neptune, N.J. Steven L. Worsley Sr. (Tabitha) of NJ; two daughters, Kimberly Ann Worsley and Darlene Worsley of Eatontown, NJ; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; six sisters, Sarah Anderson, Rosa Cobbs, Mary Lynn, Mattie Hill, Jessie Cotton, Anne Murchison; two aunts, Martha Council and Bertha Cromwell; one uncle, Herman Credle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Richard, affectionately known as ‘June” by his family enjoyed spending time with his family, church, and community. He had a kind heart, gentle spirit, never complained, and was always willing to extend a helping hand when needed and will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30 from 9 am until the time of the service at 10 am at Living Word Christian Center, 81 Highway 35 North, Neptune. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers please give to the Legacy of Bishop Richard Worsley, Jr. Building Fund. www.forwordlegacy.org.
