Obituary for Wallace S. Colmorgan
Wallace S. Colmorgan, 96 of Oceanport, died on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, he had lived in Oceanport for 64 years. Wally joined the Independent Fire Engine & Truck Co. No. 2 in February 1942. He was elected Second Lieutenant in 1956 and promoted through the ranks until becoming Captain in 1959. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest member and the longest tenured firefighter in the City of Long Branch Volunteer Fire Department. Wally served his country honorably in the US Army during WWII in the 89th Division, which freed one of the concentration camps and he also received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation in West Long Branch; the Long Branch Old Guard and he enjoyed fishing and crabbing.
Wally was predeceased by his wife, Lenore in 2005 and his son, Wallace “Skip” Colmorgan in 2001. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and William Nielson; his brother, Walter Colmorgan; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 12, from 6-8 pm and Wednesday, December 13 from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch followed by a service at 1 pm.
