Obituary for Vivian G. De Stefano

Vivian G. De Stefano
Vivian G. De Stefano, age 105 of Long Branch, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Jersey City on July 28, 1912, Vivian was employed by F&A Distributing Company in Bayonne for 40 years retiring in 1977. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in West End and a member of the Older & Wiser Club. She loved Father John and looked forward to his frequent visits along with his assistant Dottie.

Following her dear mothers death, she and her sister Lucille moved to “the shore”. They lived their golden years out in West End and loved it! “Vivi” was the family matriarch and her 7 devoted nieces and nephews always went to her for advice on any subject. She was a pillar of strength for her family and friends and someone who could always be counted on. In her younger days, she was known as the family photographer, loved family card games, family holidays and could often be found at the slots in Atlantic City. Vivi was an avid traveler, once chaperoning six Smith College grads on an 8 week European trip. In recent years, she developed and interest researching her ancestry.

Her strong will to live and incredible support of family and friends and her unwavering faith in God carried her through these last 3 years. Those who were fortunate to know her and share their lives with her were far better for it. Her life was filled with purpose and grace and the love of family, both immediate and extended.

Vivi’s final tribute was the honor and distinction of being featured on the cover of the winter issue of the VNA Magazine.

She was predeceased by her parents, Concetta and Joseph De Stefano; her loving sisters, Lucille; Theresa Vena and her husband Carmine and Josephine Peduto and her husband Gustave. Surviving are her 7 nieces and nephews, Carol Vena Webster, Mary Ellen Nusbaum, John Peduto, J. Damien Peduto (Tatyana), Joseph Vena (Tanya), Angela Freeman (Everett) & Trina Peduto Colford; 22 grandnieces and nephews and 31 great grandnieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 12 from 4 -8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Funeral, Saturday, 9:30 am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Church in West End. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery on West Side Ave. in Jersey City.

Our family will never forget the care and concern given to our aunt over the past several months by the hospice team including Lisa A., Diane and the entire volunteer team. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the VNA Health Group, 23 Main Street, Suite D 1, Holmdel, NJ 07733-9892 or to a charity of your choice.
