Dr. Joseph A. Davies, III
Dr. Joseph Arthur Davies, III, 80 of Bordentown, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived in Tinton Falls and West Lafayette, Indiana before returning to New Jersey in 2003. Dr. Davies graduated from Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania and earned his M.D. at Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Dr. Davies was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving with the 3rd Surgical Hospital Unit in Vietnam during 1966-67. Dr. Davies was a pediatrician in Long Branch, Freehold, and West Long Branch for 20 years, moving in 1989 to serve as a Physician at the Purdue University Student Health Center, West Lafayette, Indiana until he retired in 2002. For many years, Dr. Davies served as the school physician for the Monmouth Beach Schools and proudly served as the team doctor for the Monmouth Regional High School football team from 1972 until 1989.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Halliday Davies; 2 sons, Joel Davies (wife, Kim) and Jon Davies; his daughter, Jocelyn Matour (husband, Michael); and his 4 grandchildren whom he adored: Kathryn Davies, Matthew Matour, Morgan Davies, and Ryan Matour.
A public memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 2 pm at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury. Damiano Funeral Home in Long Branch is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Davies’ memory to the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury’s Building Fund or to the CentraState Healthcare Foundation to support the work of the Linda E.
