Myrtle M Gaddis Berry
Myrtle M. Gaddis Berry of Fair Haven, departed this earth Thursday January 25, 2018 at the age of 87. She was born in Tinton Falls to Laura F. McBride Gaddis and Aaron Hosea Gaddis. She graduated from Red Bank High School in 1948. Myrtle was employed by Fort Monmouth as a program analyst for 38 years before her retirement in 1990. She was a long time active member of Fisk Chapel AME Church, Fair Haven where she attended weekly bible study group with her best friend Elaine Boyd. She was also a member of Church Women United and served as president from 1992-1993. She enjoyed traveling, some of her favorite destinations were Alaska, Brazil and Pa to visit her eldest daughter and son-in-law.
Myrtle loved baking, knitting and bowling. She enjoyed teaching anyone who wanted to learn from her many years of baking and knitting experience. Her cakes were well sought out and her annual Christmas cookies were worth the wait. She also collected turtles and had a wide array of turtle jewelry, knick knacks and even a turtle cheese grater.
Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 51 years George L. Berry and her siblings
Booker Gaddis, Earthia Gaddis Daniels, John “Jack” Gaddis, Dorothy Gaddis, Ruby Gaddis Bowman,
Barbara Gaddis Gaudy, Laura Genevia Gaddis Green Daniels. She is survived by her daughters Gayle-Jean Berry Crawford, Fair Haven and Phyllis-Jean Berry of Red Bank, a brother Edward D. Gaddis of California and her Goddaughter Dawn Berry Penn of Tinton Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 30 from 9 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am at Fisk Chapel AME Church, 38 Fisk Street, Fair Haven. Interment will be at White Ridge Cemetery, Eatontown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisk Chapel AME Church.
