Obituary for Donald W. Johnson

Donald W. Johnson
Donald W. Johnson, age 87 of Long Branch, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, he has lived the past 60 years in Long Branch. Don was a Radar Instructor at Fort Monmouth for 30 years and was the proprietor of Johnson Decorators in Long Branch before retiring. He was a parishioner of Star of the Sea Church of Christ the King Parish in Long Branch and served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Don was an Ex-Captain and Financial Secretary for the Independent Engine and Truck Company #2 of the Long Branch Fire Department; a member of the Long Branch Old Guard; the Long Branch Elks; Long Branch Knights of Columbus and Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Don was predeceased by his daughter, Doris in 1970. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Doris Mc Carthy Johnson, 2 sons, William Johnson and Joseph Johnson; a daughter, Margaret Johnson and 3 granddaughters, Shannon Johnson, Lauren Antonucci and Kimberly Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 4-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue in Long Branch. Funeral, Friday; 8:30 am from the funeral home followed by a 9:30 am Mass at Star of the Sea Church. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Long Branch. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. The family invites you to leave a letter of condolence, light a memorial candle or make a memorial donation by selecting the appropriate tab.
